What is Diamine Oxidase (DAO)?
Diamine Oxidase (DAO) is an enzyme involved in the metabolism and inactivation of histamine. Previously called ”histaminase,” DAO is found primarily in the digestive tract.
What is Histamine?
Histamine is an organic compound involved in immune responses and physiological regulation of various biological functions. Histamine is produced within the body, and is present in some foods and beverages.
What is Histamine Intolerance?
Histamine intolerance occurs when the body is unable to adequately process the level of histamine present in the body. When DAO levels are low or its activity is inhibited, signs of excess histamine can appear.
